I wanted to try out my AKG K141studio headphones on my E71. So over the weekend, I went in search of an adapter jack for my E71. Managed to find this nice adapter with a short cable with the other end a 3.5mm connector. My AKG headphones are definitely a much better sounding headphones than the in the box headset cum mic. The mp3 files on my E71 played through my AKG sounded wonderfully. You can consider plugging in your personal hi-end headphones if you don't mind not using the wired mic. A worthwhile accessory to have and it doesn't cost you much.

Where did you buy this adapter? With different pinouts for different phones this is a big headache. I already have one that gives only right channel out of my Nokia E71.
Nokia headset has 4 sections on the pin which 1 of them is for the mic, my adapter got 3 pinouts. When it is plugged in to E71, you will be asked to select headphones or music stand for the connection. There will not be a problem to use the 3 pinouts so long as the pin is 2.5mm. Could be the one you are having has only 2 pinouts that's why you hear only right channel.

But, the order of pins (starting from the tip) is:
unused(mike), right, left, ground.
Nokia E71 requires different order:
left, right, mike, ground.
Hence, when I use it on my phone, only the right channel works.

Hey Oleksiy, I am pretty much having the same problem as you had, I just want to know if the new adapter that you ended up getting worked? I recently bought a Nokia E71x and have been stuck with the stupid mono problem. I bought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor but it produced mono sound. If anyone knows about one that works perfectly with Nokia E71/E71x please let me know. I waited about 10 days for my current adaptor to come in from E-Bay and it didn't work so I don't want to waste money nor time on this adapter business.
