2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for Nokia Eseries

I wanted to try out my AKG K141studio headphones on my E71. So over the weekend, I went in search of an adapter jack for my E71. Managed to find this nice adapter with a short cable with the other end a 3.5mm connector. My AKG headphones are definitely a much better sounding headphones than the in the box headset cum mic. The mp3 files on my E71 played through my AKG sounded wonderfully. You can consider plugging in your personal hi-end headphones if you don't mind not using the wired mic. A worthwhile accessory to have and it doesn't cost you much.

Garmin mobile XT on your gps enabled Eseries

My wife got a Garmin Nuvi 250 for her car because she couldn't find her way around Cockeysville. I loved to travel and used to stop my car and look at the maps just to get to my destination. Since she got one for her car, it itched me for quite a while thinking of getting a nuvi but I wanted something I could carry around without a large touchscreen.
Part the reason why I bought the E71 is the built-in gps chip, and although there is nokia maps loaded on the phone, I wanted something that I didn't need to pay for data. Garmin mobile XT fits all my requirements. All I needed to do is to install the navigation software which is free and get my map for my gps E71, no monthly data fees at all. And it works just like any Garmin navigator application minus touch screen. The downside is that locking on to gps satellites on gps smartphones takes longer. Garmin website

New E72 and E75 coming

Just when I thought probably another Eseries phone will be in the works and will take a couple of months before release since we just got our hands on the E71 and E66, here comes E72 and E75. So far there are hardly any images available yet, but I found this youtube video of the new models. E72 looks exactly the same as the E71, probably with some new added features. I hoped it will not tempt me to upgrade as my E71 is only a month old.

E72 has an all new color selection to choose from and E75 is a side slider with QWERTY keyboard. As I viewed through the youtube video, I noticed that the advertisement is made in Singapore from the scenery backdrop and caller names on the sms message.

Both phones are not officially released yet and there are no promo videos yet, I wonder how the video got leaked and how the guy who posted it got it. Anyway, if you have time to wait for the new Eseries, it should be an exciting new experience on the new phones.

navi2go : 3DVU mobile navigation

navi2go is the latest release application for gps mobile navigation. What is so different about this navigation software is that it provides 3d aerial photography and terrain landscape during navigation. Why 3D?? With 3D aerial photography of the route you are heading, it is easier to assess whether you are spot-on with where you are headed.

This is a line-based mobile solution application, so expect yourself to have an unlimited mobile data plan.

Getting lost is harder these days..unless we get rid of our smartphones.

Check out 3DVU navi2go.

Mobbler : last.fm music player on your Eseries

As much as you liked your internet radio, mobbler went the further distance by connecting your last.fm account and play all your favourite music you saved in your profile. Wow! You liked the sound of it already, don't you?

Register yourself on last.fm. Add your favorite artists on your profile.

I downloaded Mobbler from google site and couldn't wait to try it out on my E71.

What Mobbler does is streaming mp3 songs that you loved onto your phone from your last.fm account. After you installed the application on your phone, open Mobbler and login your last.fm account and you are ready to hit the musical highway.

Thing to note is that unless you have an unlimited mobile data plan, it will be best to listen to last.fm on mobbler through wi-fi.

cCalc : free scientific calculater application

There is this freeware cCalc (pronounced "see-kal"), written by Chua Welic. I think this guy is from Singapore looking at the .sg domain from the website.

mEarth v4.03 : java application

I came across this unknown mobile solutions provider mEarth, all their applications are made in Java. How competitive they are compared with google maps, nokia maps and garmin xt remains to be seen until you try out their products.

Basic version requires no registration but for versions with 3D support will need registration and a small monthly fee.

Review mEarth list.

mobipocket reader ver 5.2 : your ebook reader

An alternative to reading pdf books on adobe mobile reader is reading ebooks on mobipocket. I have used adobe pdf reader to read my pdf files and I found that the layout and readability may sometimes put a strain on my eyes.

Ebooks on mobipocket is very readable, however, if you are interested on a certain ebook, you will have to pay for it. Maybe you can find some buddies interested too and share the same ebook.

google maps on your Eseries

If you have an unlimited data plan, google maps is the best application for your built-in gps on your E71(Eseries without gps also works) where you can switch between map or satellite view to get around. You do not need to buy a map like nokia maps or garmin mobile xt to load onto your E71, which may cost quite a bit depending on the country.

By far the most innovative application ever created. Download here.

E71 flip type leather case

Owning my E71 comes with a leather slip-in leather case which is very protective but it got it's disadvantages. Take for example if you decide to use a strap for your E71, you can only slip your phone head in first and if you want to listen to music with your headset, the headset connection is on the covered side of the leather case.

I began my journey of searching for an alternative casing and found this magnetic leather flip type casing, looked pretty decent..then my imagination ran wild.. if you are on your phone with your leather flipped upwards..from afar, you looked like a one-ear crazy looking crazy looking black rabbit.

Internet radio for your Eseries

Listening to your local radio stations day in day out..makes you bored sometimes?

Check out nokia's internet radio application for your Eseries. Make use of the build-in wifi and enjoy high quality streaming music through your Eseries phone. You get access to radio stations from around the world.

Do take note of your phone's access points. Unless you have unlimited mobile data access to surf the web, it will be best for you to be around a wifi hotspot and listen to the music for free.

You can find the download link here. It will be best if you install nokia's pc suite before you install internet radio.
